Jérôme Game

Biography

Born in Paris in 1971, Jérôme Game lives there after having spent several years in the United States and in England. He joined the American University of Paris in 2004, where he is currently an Assistant Professor in Philosophy and Film Studies. After receiving his Ph.D. in modern French literature and philosophy from Cambridge University in 2002 (with a thesis on contemporary French poetry and Deleuzian aesthetics) he was appointed Andrew W. Mellon Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Humanities at University College London, where he carried out research for two years. Since 2004 he has been teaching modern Philosophy, Literature and Film Studies at AUP. In parallel with this position, he is

also an Associate Researcher with the 'Centre d'Etudes Poétiques' of Ecole Normale Supérieure -- Lettres & Sciences Humaines, and with the center 'Recherches sur la Pluralité Esthétique' of Université Paris 8 -- Saint-Denis. His teaching is very much informed by his research interests which focus on a genealogical and critical examination of modern and contemporary French culture (visual and textual) around a philosophical reworking of subjectivity and time. These concerns -- theoretical and critical -- are addressed in several publications, often within an interdisciplinary context, and problematised around issues such as the body, desire and power.

Jérôme Game has published 6 books of poetry since 2000. His texts are often written in cut-up and montage, not to constitute an immediatly critical or political space but to re-examine an esthetic question: that of common sense, that of the espace commun. This poetic work is intensified in a relation to visual arts (recent works with photograph/video artist Nebahat Avcioglu), sound (several recordings) and to a 'foreign language' (writing in English and in frenglish). Several theoretical texts interrogate those practices in the context of contemporary politics.

Numerous audio and video recordings, public readings and publications in journals in France and abroad. Member of the editorial boards of the journals Action Poétique and Inventaire-Invention (www.inventaire-invention.com). He also co-edits the Éditions Single (public readings, small press, art exhibitions).
